Gum Treatment

The intake of sweets and carbohydrates plus the lack of care for teeth and not brushing them lead to the formation of what is called “Bacteria plaque” on the teeth next to the gum. With time, the gum becomes inflamed, and with continued lack of care for the teeth the plaque transforms into what is known as “dental tartar” which appears on the gum or under the gum (which is more serious). With this condition continuing, gum pockets are formed and this leads to receding gum and a loss of the bone surrounding the teeth.

Symptoms of gum inflammation:

  • Constant gum bleeding when brushing or on touch.

  • Gum reddening around the teeth.

  • Gum swelling and enlarging.

  • Bad breath.

  • Continued or sporadic pain in the gum depending on the severity of the condition.

Treating gum inflammation:

In the case of simple gum inflammation, we clean the teeth with an apparatus called “ultrasonic scaler” in order to remove the tartar, and we give the patient some medication and mouth wash, and he is advised to brush his teeth daily and thoroughly.

But in cases of advanced gum inflammation and the presence of gum pockets and receding gum and bone, we open up the gum and curette all the inflamed tissue. And we give the patient antibiotics and mouth wash and advise him to rest for two days. We also give him instructions relating to good dental care and the right way to brush the teeth.
